Lady Gaga: Judas Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Judas Lyrics
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, I'm in love with Juda-as, Juda-as
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Juda-a-a
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Gaga
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Juda-a-a
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Gaga
When he...

After reading a good number of these interpretations I am pretty confidant in thinking that this is most definitely two-fold. But I don't want to sound like a kook! Anywho...
Meaning 1: This is on the surface the metaphor of a difficult relationship, what she knows she deserves and what she continues to run to. The two ideas of a good, respectable man with the 'virtues' she also desires in a man. But there is that bad boy, the sexy betrayer, smooth-talking lover she can't seem to shake. Almost all of us have been there if for only a while.
Meaning 2: The second metaphor is pretty biblical but not literal... mostly. The two persona and paths or choices she has to choose in life. There are the virtuous characteristics and choices she can make and then there are all the "fun" things in life. I.e. fame, money, sex, unashamedly speaking your mind. The girl is smart and educated. She KNOWS her bible. And those ideals don't leave a person. This is an internal issue of right and wrong. Judas is the "picture" of her being "Bad" and Jesus is her unfortunate role model for "good." But it seems the battle has been won, as this song proclaims, she's chosen to love the "Judas" in her.
-
I know she's an artist, but she goes for religious shock value to make money. She could've gotten the message across without using Jesus' name in vain and without dancing around like a Babylonian whore while saying His name.

lady gaga should prepare herself for hell bcuz thats where she is going.even these fools saying her d song is about love i pity dem.she is looking anamic these days like in born this way.i bet dat freek is about 2 drop dead.along side with d fools dat say she is a christian.
-
ok u people say that she is catholic and she knows about Jesus and religion is not the issue for her. so tell me why isnt she a gospel singer? u ppl are blinded and my bible tells me that these are going to happen and gaga is just an agent of evil

It's sad that some of the commenters cannot tell the difference between blasphemy and art. Whether you like her music or not, Lady Gaga is an artist, her songs are not meant to be translated literally, as they are filled with irony and metaphor.
-
I honestly see this song as being thankful for Judas. Because with out his betrayal Christ wouldn't have been crucified thus Christianity never would have exsisted.we would not have been saved with out the betrayal and the shed of Christ blood.
-
SO. I read a bunch of these comments.
I wish I knew who everyone was. I wish I knew the whole story behind Lady Gaga's lyrics, her inspiration.
But I don't.
I appreciate that Lady Gaga wants to find and express her identity, that is one thing I think everyone desires.
Only I wish she didn't have to use Christian symbolism, and stories, and the name of my Lord.
If she didn't do that, I would have no problem. But because of this I am deeply hurt, that she would take the things that I LOVE so dearly, and twist them.
It genuinely brings me pain in my heart.
Because so many people are now going to have such twisted pictures in their minds of what Christianity really is.
Whatever Lady Gaga meant for this song to portray isn't up to any of us. What is up to us is to choose whether or not to listen to it. What is up to us is to EACH seek the truth.
I admit I feel lame for writing a post. But I just don't want division or hate of any kind.
Let us who are Christians seek to know the Truth for ourselves, and when opportunity arrises, share it in LOVE.
Let those who are not, receive it with love.
thank you. -
This song brings out meaning , the best way of expressing your self to the world of how she feels towards her ex.(personal life) bringing religious values into this is well a bit drastic and unbearable to some but to others we understand "judge not or be willing to be judged", her music is entertaining. Interpretation is a hell of a thing. Lady Ga Ga, writes so that everyone can be touched in such a way that she to has been touched by everyone showing their deepest emotions and expressing their emotions verbally.Ga Ga has done nothing wrong. It's just a song, It's just your decision weather or not to like that particular song or hate it. call me whatever- but i like the song:)..

I have just come to the realization that Gaga MIGHT be using religious references only as metaphors. I feel stoopid. But for all we know, she could be a satanist trying to "come out" using her songs. Maybe she IS catholic and that could be the reason she uses religious references as metaphors. We can't be absolutely sure of her views; I doubt anyone here knows her.

May 18th, 2011 @ 15:04 - I already explained (May 17th, 2011 @ 19:42) that the Bible NEVER named Mary Magdalene as a prostitute. That idea was somebody's speculation later. It really defames her, like someone calling a decent girl a "ho". Mary was a common name back then, like now. I respectfully invite you to read the Bible for yourself to see my point.

guys you are making such a big deal!! its that she keeps falling for the wrong guy and she wrote this song as a refernce. Judas was a bad guy because he betrayed Christ, and Lady Gaga wanted people to understand how it means to her. gosh people!!
-
Somebody on here was mentioning gays, right along with murderers and such. What is wrong with you people. Jesus did not hate gays. If you are going to be Christian, be Christian.
-
This song is DEFINATELY weird.
If this was a song that was suppose to talk about her past relationships, she completely failed.
Couldn't she have used another metaphor besides Judas and Jesus?
It is no wonder that she has people thinking that she is a devil worshipper.
Yes the song is catchy and blah blah blah, but it just kind of creeped me out. -
JESUS IS THE KING OF THE WORLD! MANKIND'S ONLY SALVATION! Any negative reference to him is blasphamous in my humble opinion. I have such a great fear born out of awe and humility for this great man who willingly gave up his life for an ungrateful world so as to show his love for us!
If i was him and see such things happening in the world i would break down and weep, but i am not him and he is greater than all of us hence his great love for us.
Some wise words i read cant remember where: wouldnt it be nice to leave a good life and die to find there's no God rather than living a sinful life and to die and find THERE"S A GOD?????? think about it!
