American Noise Lyrics
Satellites and fallen stars
Distant dark blue radios that whisper down my boulevards
Ghosts and chains rattle in the attic
Broken headphone filled with static
Lonely room you’ve got nowhere to run
...

this song is very emotional for me, as it got me through a rough patch in my social life, and so it's hard to think of it indifferently, but here goes.
I think that this song is about how no matter what is going on in the world it doesn't matter. "Times will be bad, times will be good, things i wish I hadn't done, and some I wish I would." Is to say that you are what matters, and not the state of the world or even your life, you, and your choices, and the here and now are what matter. -
This song basically tells of how corrupt the world is.
"Angry words and honking cars
Satellites and falling stars
Distant dark blue radios that whisper down my boulevard."
"Angry words and honking cars" talks about how people are so angry and hardly ever happy, they yell at other people and get into fights with strangers, including on the road hence "honking cars." "Satellites and falling stars" could be perceived as something people use to wish upon. "Distant dark blue radios that whisper down my boulevard" are people sitting outside, using music to escape the anger and violence.
"3, 2...one for all and all for one."
This is the difference between people; the ones that take everything for themselves, and the ones who share with others.
"Times will be bad
Times will be good
Things I wish I hadn't done and
Some I wish I would
Cutting through the American noise
You've got a voice
And a song to sing..."
This is talking about how life will have ups and downs, and you will have regrets. "Cutting through the American noise, you've got a voice, and a song to sing" is talking about the corruption of the world, and how you have a voice to speak out and change things and help people. Your song to sing is your story to tell, to help people.
"Lift up your voice
Let love cut through the American noise"
This is telling you to defend yourself and others; let love allow you to look past the corruption and standards of today, and see what's truly on the inside of someone.
"Slamming doors and cell phone rings
Hurricane force of silent screams
Don't know what to believe."
"Slamming doors" is how people are constantly fighting, even with the ones closest to one another. "Cell phone rings" is how everyone is always busy and talking to someone. "Don't know what to believe" is the lies constantly being told by everyone around you, whether it be from your family or friends or from the media.
"Bend the rule just to break it
You're so tired cause you gotta fake it
Bu you just wanna be someone."
"Bending the rule" is basically not going by today's standards of beauty and etc., and breaking past it. The second line is someone who is depressed and ignored, they're tired because they have to fake happiness, and they want to be someone who is noticed more.
it's long, but I think this is pretty accurate.
