Billie Eilish: Lovely Meaning
Song Released: 2018
Featuring: Khalid
Lovely Lyrics
Thought I found a way
Thought I found a way out (found)
But you never go away (never go away)
So I guess I gotta stay now
[Pre-Chorus: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
Oh, I hope some day I'll make it out of...
-
It's singing about having depression and being in a situation where you can't get out of.
It also could be about self harm cause it says "Tear me to pecies, skin to bone"
This sing also fits Billie Eilish's style cause she's depressed. -
I think this song could also be a very good fit for domestic abuse as well, and the struggle to get out of it, both with struggling to get away in the physical sense of running away and the mental frustration associated with hoping things will chang e and be better. This is just a short interpretation but look through this lens, when you do you can see how I got here.

This song is about depression. In the first verse, it speaks of how you think you're finally rid of your depression, but then it comes back. In the prechorus, hey start to sing about how they hope that someday they will be rid of their depression, no matter how long it takes. They try to hide from their depression and ignore it, but they just can't. In the chorus, Billie sing "Isn't it lovely all alone?" which implies that they are familiar with the feeling of depression and being alone. Then when she sings "Heart made of glass, my mind of stone." it is referring to how their minds are strong but their hearts are fragile. In Khalid's verse, he talks about how they try to hide from their emotions. This is such a deep and relatable song when you really dissect it.

i think the song is about depression and self harm for the fact that they say "tear me to pieces, skin and bone" it could mean cutting, and they say they want to feel alive, in my depression fits i feel dead inside and i dont care anymore...
-
I think its all said in the interpretations. But to my concern, I think it's about being in a situation that you can get out of but no matter how much you try it won't go away. When they say welcome home I think they mean that the situation is welcoming you back.
-
I think the chains around Billie and Khalid represent depression. That's why Billie has more than Khalid.

I love this song so much because I think it just generally represents a tough situation. There are so many feeling that I can relate with in this song that I can’t even tell what it’s about. Even just reading other peoples interpretations I can see it all being related. All I know is it makes feel lke I’m not alone.

I feel like this song represents a person Still stuck in their past on the person They truly loved. It’s like you move To a different state to forget about that person but you still have family where you met the person you loved. So when it says “hello welcome home”, it means when you go visit that place where you and the love of your life met, brings you back to remember how beautiful your past was with that person and how years have passed and now you are here without that person. This song brings that slightly aching pain in your chest. And then you feel nostalgic as the violin plays on.

Well for me I think that this song represents depression in all sorts of ways , like teenage depression when they feel they have to one although their lives aren’t so miserable, or an abusive relationship (either parent or boyfriend) where they’re only seeing the bad side of the parent/boyfriend and they can’t tell anyone cause they’re either too young or they just feel like no one will understand, or even a mental illness cause by the fright of dying from a physical illness ( e.g cancer) and again they can’t tell anyone cause the people around them are just to scared to admit the possibility of them dying. And a bunch of other situations that still lead to “isn’t lovely , all alone” feeling where one thinks they’re better off by themselves and when they feel that whoever is around them understands but then figure out they can’t help them “thought I found a way out” is the verse that expresses that . And finally when they realize there’s no point of being alone or talking to someone they think “heart made of glass , my mind of stone” it’s where they know there thoughts/head might hurt them and they know they’ll be to easy to fall apart/break down (glass)
I know I’ve mentioned some verses before the others but everyone’s been going on about this song and how the person singing it is feeling while for me I just think it’s about feeling alone or depressed whatever the cause or age or situation is . This song just represents the feelings of every single one in the world regardless of the nationality or the social life . This proves that for the people who call depressed people “spoiled “ or “ungrateful” or seeking attention that there’s no such thing and that u could be next.
Really well done billy eliesh -

Really well done Billie eilish and Khalid for focusing the spotlight on a topic that’s been ignored ( untaken care of ) for quite a while.
Really thanks -
In my opinion, and the way i heard this song, it is about people going through their own struggles and battles in life. In this song, where it says, "Thought I found a way out," it means that he/she thought they were past there struggles in life and have moved on. It also could mean he/she thought they got used to there struggles or they thought it couldn't get any worst. Then, the lyrics where it says, "But you never go away, so I guess I got to stay now," means that he/she doesn't see their life getting better any time. And, where it says, "Oh, I hope someday I'll make it out of here, even if it takes all night, or a hundred years," it shows how desperate they are to leave their past behind and their depression, sadness, and struggles behind. The lyrics that state, "Want a place to hide, but I can't find one near. Want to come alive, but I can't fight my fear," means that he/she want to feel in a way safe and relieved from all their sturggles and pains. And
lastly, the main chorus of the song means that he/she feels all alone in their own depression and struggles to the point where their kind of used to feeling that no one cares. The "Heart made of glass, my mind of stone," part means that they've been through so much to the point where their heart can't take it anymore and there mind is kind of thinking to the point that they can't take it anymore and can't stand what happening so, they feel numb, for a lack of a better word. It also means that they've gotten hurt so much to where he/she can finally say that their used to it. And to me, to sum this up, the most meaningful part of this beautifully written song is , "Hello, welcome home." It summarizes the song and basically concludes it and puts all the pieces of the puzzle (this song), together. I know everyone has their own different interpretations of this song from their eyes, but that was just my point of view. -
To me this song is about personal problems and everything that someone may be going through in life. The song starts off with “thought I found a way, thought I found a way out” And to me it’s talking about that moment when your going through so much crap in your life and that one day or week you feel happy and content with everything, but the feeling just comes back. You get all these emotions back and your get these horrible thoughts and feelings. You thought they went away but they didn’t. “So I guess I gotta stay now” that point in where your just excepting these emotion and feelings and just dealing with everything that’s around. “Oh, I hope some day I’ll make it out of here, even if it takes all night or a hundred years” when your just trying to assure yourself and you keep telling your self and wishing that all these feeling with just go away at some point in time. “Heart made of glass” your feelings are so fragile and everything is just too much. Your heart is completely/ almost all the way broken. “Mind of stone” you have too much on your mind and your holding it in. “Somethings on my mind, always in my headspace” once again all these things are in your head, your constantly thinking about it. The song ends with and constantly says “hello welcome” this mean that this is nothing new for them. They’re used to it. In now a place that come to or something They think about no matter what. Basically just keeping all these things to yourself and all it is just runing through you head and your just dealing with it all alone. Trying to escape it all alone but not being able to.
This song could mean something completely different for anyone. This is just how I heard it the first time I listened to it. -
I think Lovely is about insecurities or mental illness too.
The box in the video seems like them trapping themselves in their own insecurity and depression. They don't want to be like that, but no matter how they try, they sink further into it, and they give up. That's why it went 'But you never go away, so I guess I gotta stay now'
They yearn to just be normal, hide, or at least even directly fight the fear of being consumed or never being understood.'Oh i hope some day, I'll make it out of here, even if it takes all night or a hundred years, need a place to hide but I can't find one near, wanna feel alive, outside I can fight my fear'
They always would still feel like they are alone, fighting alone, and that it's better that way. They've grown numb to their thoughts now, but it still hurts in their heart, everyday they try to fight and the depression tears them completely down so they are back to starting point, where once more, the depression waits for them, like the only thing they have apart from their loneliness. Their mind is their only place they can try and feel a bit safer
'Isn't it lovely, all alone
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home' -
When she says, "Heart of glass, my mind of stone", it means she is stubborn and has a hard head just like stone and because she has a hard head, she doesn't want her heart to be broken again so she is persistent and stubborn and hopes the relationship will work out so she is mentally and emotionally abusing herself.
