Billie Eilish: Ocean Eyes Meaning
Song Released: 2016
Ocean Eyes Lyrics
For some time
Can't stop staring
At those oceans eyes
Burning cities
And napalm skies
Fifteen flares inside those ocean eyes
Your ocean eyes
No fair
You really know how to make me cry
When you gimme those ocean...

#1 top rated interpretation:Everyone's saying this is about falling in love with someone who has nice eyes. Not necessarily. It could be a father, a cousin. A friend. Maybe she has to say goodbye.
"You really know how to make me cry
When you gimme those ocean eyes"
This line suggests that she can't keep it together. She's trying to be strong. Really, she assures you,she is. She's trying. But the eyes...those big, beautiful eyes. She'll never see them again, and the eyes that she knows and that she loves are filling with tears, and she doesn't know what to do, because it's NOT FAIR. It's not fair. Not fair that they have to leave her life, not fair that she'll miss them so much, not fair for their eyes to be so...so wide. So blue. So inescapably wonderful. It's not fair that they're not hers anymore. And she just can't take it because what is she supposed to do without them? Why would they leave her like this? She can't even get a last look of the beautiful eyes. She can't even look. She knows she'd break down if she did. She knows.
Oof, sorry. That was a bit of a long one. I like writing, what can I say? -

#2 top rated interpretation:The Girl is in Love with a Soldier. But in his Eyes she sees the Burning Cities, the Napalm, the Flares in Combat.
He makes her cry and scares her when he looks at her and she falls into love in his eyes.
But she knows he has a hard Diamond mind; caused by their walking in a world gone blind to the horrors of war.
She falls into Love with him when she looks in his ocean eyes; but he scares her and makes her cry; because of his hard diamond mind. -

#3 top rated interpretation:It mostly means that a girl has fallen in love with an older guy.. But not just any guy. This guy is completely different from all the other guys, which is why Billie feels that one movement inside his eyes could set her to tears. She is enraged with herself for falling in love with him yet she is obsessed with the beauty of his eyes and can't seem to fall back out of them. Despite the fact that the ocean eyes hide lots of dark secrets and a bright personality, there is also such a vastness inside them that truly amazes her in a way that she is almost entranced. However, this person is someone she feels she cannot be with and who she feels has left her alone. Because of this, his "ocean eyes" seem to haunt her emotionally.

I feel exactly the same as you until your last 19 words.
My personal interpretation, based off my own personal experience with my ex...
I'm a commercial fisherman. I actually have ocean eyes. My ex, I dumped her for being a narcissist(not explaining here, look it up, every sense of the word).
Even the older guy part. She's manipulated so many children(boys), so she tried on an adult grown man with heartache experience. She is almost ashamed of using old tricks on an old dog. She fell in love, ashamed of that. She tried all the old tricks to get him back and he "beat" her at her own game, legally... and he never sat down to play. This was never a game for him. This was supposed to be real for him. He moved on, she realizes this now.
Otherwise agree 100%, other than those last 19 words
Also, art is created with the intention that the viewers(listeners) may have their own interpretation. I hate trolls. This is ONE interpretation -
“you really know how to make me cry”
maybe she falls in love with an army guy (with blue eyes) and he has to go for a war. She is scared to lost him and she will miss him
random fact: i have ocean eyes and thats the one reason why i love this song lmaoo -
She's basically in love with a guy whose eyes are as deep as the ocean that she gets lost in them, meaning she can see right through them, she can see him through them. It's like there's fifteen flares inside those ocean eyes. But those ocean eyes are also burning cities meaning the dreams and hopes she built up and making her cry, because she's terrified at the intensity of her love for him, even though he may never be hers. She's scared at the thought of losing him, but at the same time the intensity of her love scares her so she can't do anything to keep him. She's actually never fallen from quite this high meaning fallen this hard for someone just because of their eyes. She feeling him, the real him and this unexplainable feeling but she has no proof of it to show him or the world becAuse who would believe she is in love and not just infatuated so she's scared but he's comforting her through his ocean eyes at the same time. So it's a story that might be, or might not, it. It may be eternal, or Temporary but she's in love with those ocean eyes which is legit she's in love with him. SO YEH THATS MY INTERPRETATION SO PLS LISTEN TO THE SONG.

Ok I know this is not a good one but I pretty sure it’s about a girl that has a crush on a girl that has ocean eyes and the “no fair” part means the ocean eyes girl is dating a guy, and the “you know how to make me cry when you give me those ocean eyes” means that she is sad or something and the “I’m scared” part means she is scared to admit her feelings to her, but then one day the guy cheated on ocean eyes girl with another blonde chick “friends with time” means the blonde chick wastes his time with her and the “diamond mind” means the ocean eyes girl is nice and sweet and the part “he left her lonely with a diamond mind” means he had left her sweet and nice heart away from him and the ocean eyes girl started saying I want to break up with you after seeing him with a other girl one day ocean eyes girl saw the girl that likes her crying and and the girl said she loved the ocean eyes girl and the ocean eyes girl say she loved her too, they started dating, got married and a daughter together :) for anyone that’s confused the ocean eyes girl is Bisexual (means your attracted to males and females) and the girl that watches her is lesbian (means your female that is attracted to females) this is just my opinion btw :)

Okay, I'm sorry, but every time I hear this song I think of a young, high-school girl with brown hair and brown eyes -- possibly not liked by a whole lot of people but idk -- being best friends with and having a secret crush on this hot guy. But she doesn't like the hot guy just cus he's hot. She likes him because of what's on the inside. The lyric "your diamond mind" kind of relates to this, and I think that it talks about the eyes because the eyes are known to be the windows of the soul. Besides that, I think that the girl is heartbroken when he starts dating this blonde chick with blue eyes who looks like a model. Because of how heartbroken she is, she writes a song, pouring out her emotions into it. I also feel like this is a song she wrote as if it were a diary entry and she didn't write it for clout or anything. I think this song was a form of her trying to get over her feelings and failing.
"No fai-i-i-ir/you really know how to make me cry-y-y/when you give me those ocean eyes." No matter what she does, she can't stop thinking about him, and her heart shatters every single time she remembers who he's dating.
These are my personal opinions, please dont scream at me for getting something wrong or whatever. To anyone who actually read through this entire stupid thing that's me procrastinating work for school, thank you SO much for reading all the way through, hope you're doing okay, and have a great day! Sending out love and best wishes for all guys gals, and nonbinary and/or genderfluid pals.

The song was written for her by her brother yet it does touch on some interesting subjects throughout the song .
Ocean eyes does not necessarily mean they are blue they are the kind of eyes you get lost in and fall into because of their beauty and depth yes it can also mean the colour as well
The song touches on the fact these eyes hide a dark side to them as well as Billie references in the first verse all dangerous just like an ocean as well can be calm or unforgiving
Being scared to love someone with such intensity can be a frightening thing and it makes her cry and I also think it’s in reference to after a fight throwing those calm ocean eyes is enough to break anyone
Diamonds are one of the toughest gem stones yet it was not meant as in a beautiful mind but yet one that has a mind hard as a diamond because of the turmoil they share in this relationship
So many emotions and things being said in such a lovely way great song -
I think that Ocean Eyes is about sad love. Maybe the guy with the ocean eyes lives in another country or is away and she misses him.
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
im literally copying some of the text yall have write, lol. for school. :P And i love how the song was made, and like. Im literally in love with this song. when i heard it for the first time my eyes teared up.
-
My interpretation is that Billie is trying to break up with someone she loves because she is being left alone too often or treated badly. She tries to let him go but cant seem to get him out of her mind. She keeps thinking back to his beautiful eyes and his unique mind, and just can't let go.
-
I think the interpretation of ocean eyes is about this girl who gets obsessed with a guy having eyes clear and deep as the first ocean . At first she's just obsessed with his eyes, quite like no another. Then, just by staring at his eyes, she begins to understand him better and falls in love. But she's scared that he might not love her back and anytime she sees does ocean eyes, she cries.
-
I think its about Billie herself, who has blue eyes and a brilliant strong precious mind, like diamond. Finneas (her brother) wrote it.
-
I think it’s about someone trying their hardest not to fall in love with someone but the persons eyes always manage to have a hold on her, making it almost impossible not to melt into their arms.
-
My interpretation is the writer suffers from PTSD. They are looking at themselves in the mirror, staring into their own eyes. They see the pain, the hurt, the despair. They love themselves, but it doesn't take away the damage dealt to them.
-
“ I've been watching you
For some time
Can't stop staring
At those oceans eyes”
She has a crush or obsession and is obsessed with their supposedly blue eyes.
“ Burning cities
And napalm skies
Fifteen flares inside those ocean eyes
Your ocean eyes”
Again with the eyes.
“ No fair
You really know how to make me cry
When you gimme those ocean eyes
I'm scared”
Maybe that person is with someone else or for whatever reason they can’t be together. Or that person doesn’t feel the same way about her.
