Katy Perry: Who Am I Living For? Meaning
Who Am I Living For? Lyrics
I can feel a phoenix inside of me
As I march alone to a different beat
Slowly swallowing down my fear, yeah yeah
I am ready for the road less traveled
Suiting up for my crowning battle
This test is my own cross to...

I think it's about how hard it is to be chosen to make a hard choice.
Yes, like Harry Potter, but you're all forgetting that most books are like that with one hero... Percy Jackson, The Mortal Instruments, Maximum Ride, etc. -
For her personally, it could have something to do with religion vs the world.
But, for me at least, it means being brave enough to try to change the world for our real world.
And it could pertain to fantastical heroes, like Harry Potter and others. The chosen ones. The line "I can see the writing on the wall, I can't ignore this war" made me think of the upcoming game Skyrim - the Hero's coming is prophesied by Alduin's Wall, as well as the events in the games predecessors. -
i think its about going through life living for God.But being tempted to sin. i think when she says the road less traveled she is meaning following God, because not many people do.

My interpretation for this, is that Katy Perry is choosing between the two roads she must be travelling... As I know, and as some interviews of Katy Perry, she said that she sold her soul to the devil... They offer this, then promise this person forever FAME.. But then, every devil is a liar... And THERE IS NO OTHER TRUTH BUT ONLY THE WORD OF GOD... Maybe they will meet the fame and success.. But WHAT IS THE REAL HAPPINESS ? You will never feel it, unless you go unto God.. As common sense, when someone sold his soul to devil, common sense, you will be on HELL.. And yes, HELL is true :) You will burn in hell forever... But in HEAVEN? You will feel the REAL HAPPINESS, LOVE, and THE REAL SUCCESS..... Back to topic .. Katy Perry is a Christian ! And I do believe, that someday Katy will choose the right path.. And I do believe, she will still stay with Lord God :) C'mon, just don't lose faith. Keep praying for the persons who struggles for this kinds of problems...

May God bless you, Katy. This song is about God and Satin and deciding which one to choose. Katy, please choose God. He died for you and loves you and will forgive you. Katy, stop all this nonsense about going around half naked on you tube and cussing in songs. Idea: do pop Christian.

I think it's Katy's take on how Christ must have felt when facing his calling and chosen life path that culminated at the cross. We know he was tempted in the desert and prayed alone for strength in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was arrested and crusified.

Katy, Really deep down you know who you've h been or are living for,You also know who He is thats calling you, and why He's calling you, He will never force you but wants you to turn to Him. He is your Creator, your greatest love, The only one who really wants whats best for you, He already laid down His life for you. You already know the decision you should make. May God bless you now and forever.

I consider this song to be about the archetypal adventure story, or the "hero's journey." The line "It's never easy to be chosen" is about the trials and hardships faced by a Chosen One. "I can see the writing on the wall, I can't ignore this war" refers to an epic battle between the forces of light and darkness. While this could fit any epic story involving a Chosen One (i.e Star Wars, The Matrix, etc.) I associate this song with Harry Potter in particular.

Is it a song about occult initiation? Some might interpret the song as a religious song, perhaps about Christianity. But the terminology used however strongly points to occult mysteries: reference to a phoenix (a metaphor of man’s spiritual rebirth), a sacrifice, light growing from inside (illumination), duality between heaven and hell, etc.
