Katy Perry: Wide Awake Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Wide Awake Lyrics
I’m wide awake
Yeah – I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I’m wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrong?
I’m wide awake
And now it’s clear to me
That everything you see
Ain’t always what it...

This is a song TO SATAN not to GOD. Turn the looking glass around sheeple! This song is about being disillusioned with god and church. Her new faith: illuminati/satanism believes there is no god or they are in fact gods themselves. So when she says she wishes she hadn't bowed down she's talking about her Christian faith. The reference to being born again and the lions den is a double meaning to fool the people who would like to think she's coming back to Christ or those with a very poor grasp of Christianity. (should we have considered a Madonna a Christian in the 80's for wearing crosses?)
She concludes with "god knows I tried, seeing the bright side.." another words, she tried to be a good Christian but it didn't work. And all of her references to falling, crashing DOWN like Satan who fell from heaven...she sympathizes with the devil who was cast out of hell..this is not a love song people...this is a declaration of her new allegiance sadly.
That said: perhaps she can still be redeemed, though with her newfound fame and supporters such as the high priestess Madonna, I doubt she will ever get out alive... -
It's about her marriage to russel brand and how it fell apart. She was dreaming about how it would be and now has had her eye opened to the truth.
-
It's totally obvious!! She is mad at her parents for tricking her about God. She was raised in the church and never experienced the secular world."I am wide awake" means she has seen the outside of christianity, her eyes were opened, she was on cloud 9 bcuz everything was made out for her to have a perfect life. "she is our of the lions den" of christian thinking. IT'S ALL THE DEVILS WORK!!!
-
I definitely figured it had something to do with either someone being abused and being awake to the fact that they were being abused, because she is talking about waking up on the concrete, and turning to god to help her through hard times. xD

"I’m wide awake
Yeah – I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I’m wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrong?
I’m wide awake
And now it’s clear to me
That everything you see
Ain’t always what it seems
I’m wide awake
Yeah – I was dreaming for so long"
The first paragraph verse is pretty much saying, whatever you see above you isn't always what it seems to be. Ex: Becoming someone you want to be because of what it may look like in movies or TV. This might also be something such as falling in love with a guy(because this is more so a girls song). Than later on realizing, guys who seem as good as they're usually aren't. I think this song is more so about Barack Obama's Hope and Change. Realize around you.. don't hope for something to happen, you can't always dream for everything, wake up and realize that dreams aren't always going to be true. Everything you want isn't everything you need is basically what the first paragraph is about.
[Pre-chorus]
"I wish I knew then what I know now
Wouldn’t dive in, wouldn’t bow down
Gravity hurts, you made it so sweet
Till I woke up on, on the concrete"
Basically saying, she wished she knew what she knows right now, but in the past. Basically shes saying.. she wishes she knew the future, but back then when she was younger or in the past. Basically bringing future knowledge into her past. She doesn't want to bow down or be on the low side of life, she wants to have the topsides of life or the higher up sides of life. "Till I woke up on the concrete" basically saying she was lifted up so high or hopes for something than she fell down and woke up on the concrete, feeling what it feels to be awake or alive. Hope is basically like dreaming for something you probably won't ever get. If you really want something you have to earn or achieve it.. you can't expect to be handed it.
[Chorus]
"Falling from cloud 9
Crashing from the high
I’m letting go tonight
Yeah I’m falling from cloud 9"
I'm not too sure what cloud 9 means, but in this paragraph I believe shes saying that she just wants to let go and fall now. She was up high and had fun up there, but now she fell and letting go of being so high up.
"I’m wide awake
Not losing any sleep
I picked up every piece
And landed on my feet
I’m wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself, no
I’m wide awake
Yeah – I am born again
Outta the lion’s den
I don’t have to pretend
And it’s too late
The story’s over now, the end"
In this paragraph it's very difficult to understand the beginning lines. However, I believe she means.. she's trying to pick herself back up again from hell. She is also saying, she doesn't need anything to make her complete or perfect. She is also saying that she got on her feet again, not pretending to be something she isn't. She got out of the mess she was in. I think this is about Katy's ex husband, how she was pretending with him, but in reality she couldn't be herself around him. She's back and awake.
(Pre-Chorus)
[Chorus]
"I’m falling from cloud 9
(It was out of the blue, I’m…)
Crashing from the high
I’m letting go tonight
(Yeah – I’m letting you go, I’m…)
I’m falling from cloud 9"
Here shes basically falling too hard for her ex husband, so she has no choice, but to let him go because it's ruining her career perhaps or herself?
"I’m wide awake
Thunder rumbling, castles crumbling
(I’m wide awake)
I am trying to hold on
I’m wide awake
God knows that I tried
Seeing the bright side (I’m wide awake)
But I’m not blind anymore
I’m wide awake (x2"
This is basically saying.. don't be stupid to fall for someone, allow yourself to control you. That doesn't mean don't date/marry anyone, that just means don't allow anyone to dictate or control you. Be yourself and accept yourself. If you lose yourself because of your partner you WILL no matter what become emotionally drained and fall down for anything. Stand up for yourself, whatever it is that you believe in, but don't ever push your limits on the other side. Only push them around if they've pushed you around or whatever it is that you believe is right. Life ain't perfect and it wasn't meant to be.
Overall this whole song seems to be about falling for anything and not being able to stand up for yourself. If you can't stand up for whom you're and what you like.. you will be dragged down into hell. Also you have to be willing to commit to a person if you really like them.
But bottom line this song is about Katy Perry's marriage. They couldn't make their marriage happen.. they were always away from each other and it was always long distance and they didn't want that, but had no choice.
Bottom line is: Before you ever think about doing something or getting together with someone you have to learn from each other.. if the relationship will work or not. Planning is partly the key in life, if you don't make a plan or get ready for what might be coming ahead of you. You'll end up in Katy Perry's situation, divorce after months. Plan ahead in the future before you ever think about getting together with your partner. If things wont work out.. you'll lose yourself, which is basically what happened to Katy, but she broke that off.
In the video Katy and the guy were walking up to each other and the guy criss-crossed his fingers basically making a promise, but sometimes in life you can't always make promises is pretty much what this video is about. Don't fall under anything, rise above and shoot for what love is to you. In this case, love for Katy is being a singer. Whatever you love most in life, shoot for that. Shoot for your dreams and don't stop, don't let anything get in your way. -
She remembers when she started doing drugs.
"I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart"
But she never anticipated the actual destruction it would occur.
"How did I read the stars so wrong?"
She continues to do a lot of them. Suddenly, the high is not high anymore. She's deep in. Somehow, she realizes her problems.
"You made it so sweet
'Til I woke up on
On the concrete"
She decides to fight her addiction.
"Falling from cloud 9
Crashing from the high
I'm letting go tonight"
She succeeds.
"I'm wide awake
Not losing any sleep
I picked up every piece
And landed on my feet
I'm wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself, no"
She has regrets and sorrow.
"And now it's clear to me
That everything you see
Ain't always what it seems
I'm wide awake
Yeah, I was dreaming for so long"
"I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn't dive in
Wouldn't bow down
Gravity hurts"
As usual, I'm tempted to go with an boring vacuumed "impossible love story", but who knows !?! -
This song is about being addicted to oxycodone, or "blues" as referenced in the song. When you come crashing from the high, falling from cloud 9, everything painful that was made sweet by the drug hits you hard like concrete. You suddenly find yourself "wide awake" You are awake to reality and all the pain it contains. Your pupils get very large because you see now, much like taking acid. When you are high on oxy's your pupils are small, blocking out awareness and light and reality. To me, one interpretation of this song is clearly about kicking pain killers. Oxy's have become really popular with celebrities and athletes etc because of their "initial" ability to put you on cloud 9. They are called "blues" because the pills are blue, which is also referenced in the Bourne Legacy.

This video is about the very deep hidden things that Jesus in the bible eluted to. He said in his FATHERS HOUSE are many mansions.
This video is about Katy realizing that when she eats the strawberry, you will see JESUS tattooed on her arm. As she bites from his FRUIT or assumes HIS IDEALS she no longer has her own FEMALE identity, hers has assumed the identity of JESUS CHRIST and worse that of a man.
As she realizes that where she is now as seen walking in the hallway of MIRRORS with an ILLUSION Floor showing the meaning of DUALITY.
SEE (PLATOS THE CAVE) FOR DEEPER INSIGHT
Then the Photographers stealing her SOUL threw photography as many old school andes mountain and rainforest people will not have you photograph them due to this belief and notice those monsters are taking the photos?
The point is she realizes something very deep and esoteric is really going on in her own life and this song is about her journey threw her own life coming to this deep secret that she realized as becoming WIDE AWAKE.
So if her life feel apart because she accepted Jesus as a substitute for HER OWN FEMALE Love or for her own FEMALE identity, her life feel apart as she was searching for what she needed the most and that is the love of her own identity, Katy comes to the knowledge that she is more than a believer, she is something else more powerful and more awesome then anyone could imagine and what she is experiencing is just a chapter in her own NEVER ENDING STORY. Its up to you to be awake and see the greatest truth before you, search for the secrets and you will totally find them, try youtube its one of the best sources for PLATOS the CAVE, and really pay attention... -
I think she helped write it. She was a former Christian, and she sang in the choir at church. She joined the illuminati probably because other celebrities were, and she thought she would become more famous. By the lyrics of this song you can hear that she realizes it isn't what she thought it was going to be. I think she is trying to turn back to God. It kinda reminds me of John Newton in a way. He turned to his last resort, which was God. I really hope that Katy will turn back to God, and get out pf that stupid illuminati stuff!!
-
I believe that she is comming back to her first love Jesus.
I bought her first CD in 2001 which i really loved, and her songs were strong faith songs.
I hope she will have a great testimony about God's Mercy and forgiveness when she finishes her
career as Katy Perry, and returns as Katy Hudson. -
Hmm..... I think it has dual meanings.
I think this song is (partly) about her marriage. She was so, so happy when she got married, but then her marriage crumbled to pieces, finally ending with a divorce.
Marriage definately isn't a simple thing. Being together, and dating, is a lot different than actually being married.
Now, she's going back to God, out of the 'Lion's den' of marriage.
How could she have read the stars so wrongly.....? -
I want to acknowledge the person who wrote this, I wholeheartedly agree :
"Most of us are walking through life on auto-pilot......making mistakes and not always learning from them......if we took ownership of our own karma...we would evolve to not make the same mistake twice.....And elevate our self awarness and no longer be a victim of circumstance....so if we WOKE UP.....WE WOULD NOT FALL SO FAR FROM THE HEAVEN ON EARTH THAT IS RIGHTFULLY OURS!! KATY PERRY is saying shes WIDE AWAKE and no longer a victim of circumstance.....she is owning her own life and not asking others to make LIFE FULLFILLING FOR HER.....when we do that we make life full of meaning with our own expectations...instead of blaming others for what we expect them to do....im assuming her exhusband was not what she expected.....but he opened her eyes to assuming responsiabilty for herself....love yourself and you can love everyone else.....but you have to be WIDE AWAKE.....MAKE CHOICES WE WONT REGRET.....AND LIVE IN THE MOMENT....WIDE AWAKE!" -
This song has nothing to do with finding God, drugs etc. Watch the video closely. The key is when she approaches the mirror. She is hand in hand with her youth, yet no image youthful image appears in the mirror. It's about the loss of the childlike innocence we all have. Something happened so deep she realizes she lost her youth and innocence, “I’m wide awake
And now it’s clear to me, That everything you see, Ain’t always what it seems, I’m wide awake, Yeah – I was dreaming for so long.” The walls close in, the labyrinth is dark, “Gravity hurts, you made it so sweet, Till I woke up on, on the concrete.” Everything about the song and video clearly emphasizes you can rely on no one but yourself for your own happiness, contentment and self awareness. “How did I read the stars so wrong?” The video closes as she yearns to return to that childhood innocence where there is little hurt and pain. -
For sure, this is about marrying a narcissist (Russell Brand). Anyone who has been through this (me) knows this well. The complete about-face of her relationship with him, is a well documented phenomenon in The Verbally Abusive Relationship and Controlling People. The photo of her without her makeup that he tweeted to 'mock' her for sure must have been a really low moment. Luckily, young women today have access to information that can 'wake' them up and move on from these abusive bastards. Kelsey Grammer is another one I just read about. He has a new bride who will also experience this in time.

I think this song is about Katy becoming disillusioned about her marriage. She thought she was on cloud nine (happiness) but she is not "blind" anymore and sees that her relationship was a lie. She mentions astrology, probably in relation to thinking her husband was a good match ("how did I read the stars so wrong?") and now she's wide awake to what a bad match it was. He "made it so sweet" but now she realizes how much it hurts (falling on the concrete). She is in a healthy place now, as she's "not losing any sleep" and doesn't need anyone or anything to complete herself because she's been "born again" (she's returning to God) and doesn't have "to pretend" anymore (to be a christian).
