Wide Awake Lyrics

I’m wide awake (x2)

I’m wide awake
Yeah – I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I’m wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrong?
I’m wide awake
And now it’s clear to me
That everything you see
Ain’t always what it...

The song is a about how she dreamed of a prince, happiness and the usual stuff that young girls dream of. Everything started off happy on cloud nine with her prince but she realised that he wasn't what she thought he was, she got rid of him, this surprised the little girl, as katy destroyed what the girl dreams about. From that she got a dose of reality, she was reborn and woken.

She's finally letting go. She is broken hearted as all of her fans know and this is a song to express just how she is feeling. An emotion she has been hiding for so long and she is now seeking love from a deeper source, her faith. The music video at the end shows her going on stage singing 'teenage dream', she's let her emotions loose and set them free to then return to her everyday.

to me it's like, i been tryin so hard to defying gravity and i been trying to reach out for my dream, but after this struggle, yes i'm failed, "i'm falling from cloud 9" and now i'm "Wide awake" i've got nothing ,, i realized that life dosen't always go myway, and life dosen't always have bright side either, sometime it's bring me a pain that it's really hard to get through,so now,, to me this "gravity really hurts". "i'm not blind anymore "so now i want to stop dreaming before i get to heartbreaking,, i'll facing the reality which is somethig that someone "made it so sweet"
and only "God know i'm tried"...

sorry for my english, i'm korean
it's really hard to tell myself in english, but this song in english accurately saying that what i'm feels right now,

    i'm 21
i always thought that life's always full of happiness , and world had full of oppurtunity ,,, i been always expected bright future but as i'm getting order
i realized that life is not that easy

and expecting of life gave me an heart breaking that's all about this song and my life

i absolutly love katy perry and i know most of her songs are about the illuminati! Ive read most of the comments and its maybe a little about divorce but only a little! The song is about illuminati. Its he about her wishing she never joined and wanting to be free because she doesnt like the illuminati and thinks her soul is alot more valuable than the fortune and fame. The second verse seems to be about letting go of something... probably her marriage.
She let go, picked up the pieces of her life, and didnt lose any sleep, she needs nothing to complete herself. Clearly she is implying that she turned to God for guidance or acceptance, it doesn't matter now. "The story is over now the end."

I think all the God and redemption interpretations are off, Just sayin. I could type word for word what I ferl it all means but to me its about a relationship. You fall so fast and forcefully into love sometimes that you're on "cloud 9" and suddenly itz not what you wanted or expected so you crash from that love high as you hit bottom realizing so many things. Letting go tonight is admitting all of that truth to yourself. Being in the dark..falling hard and reading the stars wrong again goes with the flippef relationship. Being born again out of the lions dens to me means finally breaking free and away from the toxic relationship...and its too late the stories over now the end...its pretty self explanatory ...meaning its over..I'm out done and done..peace! Castles crumbling etc is everything falling down around you....god knows that I tried...well trief to hold onto the good of tje relationship..tried to make it work and god knows that it can't be denied but she's not blind ne more meaning yeah I tried...held on and gave it my all and finally I see it can't be saved I love this song. I left my abussive marriage 3 months ago n this song aired on the billboard awsrds. It inspired me so much that leaving and letting go was the best I could have done I love the song even now and I have a beautiful script tattoo of the quote "I'm Wide Awake" across my hip as a constant reminder of my overcoming and finally seeing things clearly <3

Haha look at all these sad people who just NEED this song to validate their religion and be about Katy coming back to Christianity. If it says anything about religion, it's saying she's wide awake to that nonsense and won't be having anything to do with it any more. If she could go back she "wouldn't dive in" to religion and certainly "wouldn't bow down" to any gods. She's fallen from cloud nine (heaven=christianity), but in the ironic sense of the felix culpa. She had "read the stars so wrong," thinking the universe had any meaning, trying to derive metaphysics from nature--it can't be done. She uses the phrases "born again" and "out of the lion's den" ironically. Didn't any of you people go to school? She's taking biblical phrases and turning them on their head. She doesn't have to pretend any more. All religious people secretly know they're full of it and have to pretend to themselves and each other that they really believe the nonsense they spout. But Katy isn't "blind anymore" she's seeing the *true* "bright side," which is outside of the blind darkness of christianity, and "God knows that I tried" is the best turn of the dagger. She can't be blamed for insincerity--she, like so many other christians, really did commit herself and give everything. Trouble is that doesn't mean jack when the thing you give yourself to is all a sham. Katy Pery is wide awake to the nonsense of religion--are you?

The Lion is symbolism for Jesus. He is known as the Lion of Judah (from Judah's tribe). I am born again, outta the Lion's den...I could even go as far as to say that in the video, in the maze, she sees the forbidden strawberry and takes it although Jesus is tattooed on her wrist, kind of like saying she knew it was wrong but she forewent her faith and indulged anyway...

I honestly thought that this song was about drugs and the withdrawal after you discontinue their use. Hence "falling from cloud 9" and "crashing from the high." During withdrawal, you literally feel like you are dying, so these lyrics fit. Not to mention, "waking up on the concrete." She could have given all her money to the drug addiction, hence she is waking up on the street, broke. Also, "wish I knew then what I know now" could show that she wishes she knew how awful and addictive drugs could be, so she wouldn't have tried them in the first place. The other half of the lyrics hint at recovery. "I'm born again" and "I'm wide awake" signal that she is overcoming the drug addiction and is healing. I personally don't think that Katy does drugs or is overcoming an addiction, I just think that it would be an interesting concept for a song.

All you people saying she's turning to god are dead wrong. She grew up christian, she started in christian music. She realizes now that it was all bullshit and she sees the world for what it is. Saying "I won't bow down" is clearly a defiance of the christian god who demands such. In this song she is saying her faith was a farce and she sees that now. How can you interpret otherwise when she is clearly embracing material pleasures?

I think that Katy Perry is trying to say that she was hurt because her exhusband isnt who he said that he was. She found God and she is different. She isnt the girl that her as. She realized that she wasn't who God wanted her to be. God was reaching for her as she fell from Cloud 9. Cloud 9 is what she thought was heaven and then she realized that it wasn't what she thought is was. So it took a hard fall and she woke up on the concrete. She realized that God is who he is and will forgive her for her mistakes. That he is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. He is the almighty. He is what you need so please just try to do what Katy Perry did and if you do fall on the concrete reach your hands to God. God loves you guys. No matter what.

She's a damn celebrity who dresses in cute provocative clothing...You guys are dumb for thinking its about returning to GOD...Do you think about god when your shooting whip cream out of your nipples??? i don't think so

Jesus freaks can turn anything into a god related phenomenon...I'm sure the budget crisis is god telling us we need to stop spending money on materialistic things and return to our faiths hahahaha fools.

Bit of a corny interpretation but i think it's about Katy realising that fame and fortune is not necessarily as important as virtues, though then she became famous that's all she thought about.when she's falling fRom cloud nine she's falling from all the bliss, fame fortune when she realizes that she shoulda spend more time on virtues? just a guess.
