Judas Lyrics
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, I'm in love with Juda-as, Juda-as
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Juda-a-a
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Gaga
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Juda-a-a
Judas, Juda-a-a, Judas, Gaga

To all the dear commentators out there, I have read the various interpretations, and came to my own conclusion...
It is evident that Gaga's latest song truly disappointed some of her Christian fans, and me being on of them, feels like this is being blown out of proportion.
I do believe that she is singing of a lover that has in some or other way hurt her very deeply. She idolized him, saw him as her king. In a way worshiped the ground he was walking on. 'I'll bring him down, king with no crown' simply means to get her revenge on someone that she has previously idolized, and not to bring religion down...
Look, if you don't like the song, so be it. I love it, and will not be convinced otherwise. gaga is very talented, and obviously good with metaphors ;) -
To all of those who think this is about bringing down religion, I am afraid I have to strongly disagree. I personally think that after watching the Judas video that it is about Gaga's inner struggle with religion. That she believes and wants to be in love with Jesus but gives into temptation easily as she finds Judas much more exciting and dangerous and therefore more attractive. This is also shown at the end when she is crying and getting pelted with stones. Interestingly, this punishment was also used in the time of the bible for women (mainly, I am not entirely sure) who had committed sins.
Because of this I don't think this is promoting or demoting religion. Maybe it was simply designed to question our beliefs a little by making us think. I do however, think that this is a brilliant song from Lady Gaga and possibly one of the best she has ever done as it goes much deeper than the surface. -
Has anyone thought that Gaga could be a metaphor for Mary Magdalene? Anyways, love the song :)

We did our religion project on this song and we have come to a conclusion that's lady gaga is wanting to bring down the catholic religion and do everything for her dear Judas.

Alright, usually I'm pretty quiet about things like this. I am a Christian and I also happen to have a passion for music. I actually consider myself a pretty big Lady Gaga fan. After reading the actual lyrics to this song, I couldn't be more shocked. I'm not saying she doesn't have a right to release a song like this. I do think it's ridiculous that Christians can't pray in school, but a superstar can release an albulm bringing down OUR God. We can't speak the name of God in public television, on public radio, or in our public schools. We have to be sanctioned to our own radio stations and our own schools. While every other religion can be in a public school and be proud of their religion. When someone is seen holding a Bible in a public school, they're considered a "religion freak." I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a Christian. I don't push my values on you, yet Lady Gaga can release songs slandering my Jesus. Sorry, that's where I draw the line.

See here what says lady gaga...

I think it is the best meaning. -
People talking about how shit this song and it's lyrics are - Katie perry sings about plastic bags. Jlo talks about dying on a dance floor. Enrique sings about Shagging someone Tonight.
Lyrics these days are shit, and gaga actually sits and thinks about what she is going to write about. Yeah she's doing it for the attention... Which is what every artist does? Some people are so narrow minded and dull.
"People forget music is a business. But gaga actually thinks about it! Agh.
It surprises me to see the attention that the song is getting, and let's be serious, that is all Gaga wanted. Don't get me wrong, I just attended her concert this past month, but in a way this song is a disappointment. The song is basically talking about her ex-boyfriends, in a much dramatic and metaphorical kind of way. However, I see this as totally unnecessary. There was no need for such method. Let's face it, Gaga already has the attention, there was no need for more. I love Gaga, and her music. However, this was a disappointment."

I would like to say something to commenter at 9:25:
First of all, Do you know who the hell Judas is!!??! Peter is the one Jesus spoke to and said "You will have denied my name three times before the rooster crows." Second of all, you can't just base the whole situation on what was seen in the 'Passion of the Christ' because that is mostly Hollywood. Here is a great suggestion, if you want to be a smart ass make sure you read the Bible or at least get your facts straight that way when you want others to feel like idiots due to a slight lack of knowledge, you won't end up being the one looking like the idiot who obviously doesn't know what he/she is talking about. Thank You and GOD BLESS!!!! -
I happened to hear this song on the radio on my way home from school one day and I thought to myself, "What in the world? Are you serious??!!?" I am a firm believer in Christ and this song really bugged me and as I listened to it I turned the station at this verse:
"Jesus is my virtue, Judas is the demon I cling to, cling to."
This really disturbed me because my interpretation was that she is basically blaspheming God and saying that she would rather do the wrong thing than the right thing. She isn't Christian, I believe it's Roman Catholic. I saw an earlier post on here and they said "She may believe in "god" however, we do not know the "god" she is referring to." I really agree with that statement;I liked lady GaGa when she first came out but now she is just plain bold when it comes to her comparing her life with Biblical situations, specifically Christianity (if that's even the case). Lady GaGa's video "Born This Way" also has some very bold symbols pertaining to the devil, homosexuality, etc. I have heard many oppositions towards Christianity in many of her lyrics and that is pretty weird; I know many people that say this song is just her comparing her life with a biblical situation, however, it is a bit peculiar to me that she has made blasphemous remarks in more than one of her songs so that isn't "just coincidence", she is obviously sending a message out about herself. The interpretation of her lyrics depend on the person who's listening to it and how they feel about her and religion. -
COME ON!!
I think If you replaced the name Judas with "Bad Boy" or "The Cheater" or "Heathen" the name simply implies a sinful man who contradicts and complicates her life long role as a "holy fool (zealot)" and moral Christian.
The metaphors are overthought and overwrought. Why must every unique minded artist's lyrics be degraded to heathenism if it isn't understood by the conservative masses? It takes one to know one, and as one liberal individual, I can see how a conservative figure might confuse "I'll bring him (Jesus) down... down, a king with no crown." [WRONG] with "I'll bring him (Judas) down... down, a king with no crown." For Jesus IS the king adorned with the crown of thorns and furthermore, she proclaims that "Jesus is my virtue (truth/morality)..".
One may wonder what this song is truly about if it isn't condemnation of the catholic church? I believe this can be either/and an ancient metaphor for the love-hate relationship between Mary Magdelene and Judas:
"In the most Biblical sense I am beyond repentance (forgiveness)
Fame hooker, prostitute wench, (expresses hard truths no one wants to see/hear) vomits her mind" and can perhaps draw parallels between herself and Mary Magdeline.
She cites a specific modern breakdown of her meaning:
"But in the cultural sense I just speak in future tense [what will eventually happen to most good christian girls when they fall in love with the bad, dirty, godless boys-- just as they have in the past]
Judas (Bad Boy) kiss me (really: kiss my ass) if offenced or wear ear condom next time (protect your ears/don't listen)"
a modern metaphor to reveal what it says about the irony in our society, and HOW OPPOSITES ATTRACT -
Ok its obvious what is happening to Lady GaGa. Its not just this song that is about being against God. Just about every song of hers is about it. She is in the Illuminati, its is a group/organisation about freemasonry, aka believing in the devil. Just about every singer is in it. If you listen to Lady GaGa's songs you will realize that she is trying to send subliminal messages, as in sending messages to your brain without noticing. Have you ever wondered what is up with Lady GaGa doing that thing around her eye. Think about it, her fingers are shaped in the number 6, and 3 fingers are doing a 6, get it 666?
Also the next thing im going to tell you is very suspicious and after you have seen this picture it is hard to believe that the Illuminati isn't real. If you watch Rhianna Under the Umbrella, she dances in a triangle. She puts her hands up and her head down and she looks like the devil. She does it so quickly that you dont see it but it was still there. If you cant see it then google, Rhianna in triangle. the picture is very daunting. I could go on for ages explaining more but thats just a little bit of an introduction to the NWO. New World Order. The Illuminati are trying to make a NWO, to brainwash everyone. This is no longer a myth, its the TRUTH! -
. .,she sold her mind, body, and soul to judas . .,so that in return she could get the fame and money that she wants! . ,i'm not really sure about this .. ,i have this idea because of the movie "jennifer's body" . .,

What I got from the song is she is trying to move forward but she still loves her past. If it is truly a song about "religion" and "Christianity" the way I view it is that she is trying to serve God but is held back and betrays God. From a relationship point of view it can be that she is trying to move on from the guy she dated but cant because she still loves the guy. I dont see this song as a "stab" against Christianity at all
-
first off gaga is a very religious person whether u believe it or not. interpret it as u want but judas is actually the opposite of wat ur saying. In this song she's not speaking about religion at all, but simply using it as a metaphor. She's talking about a relationship in which she is (metaphorically) Jesus and her partner is Judas. He has betrayed her many times whether verbally, physically, or emotionally and as many times as he hurts or betrays her she still can pull herself away from him ("even after three times he betrays me"). When she says ("bring him down, I'll bring him down down, a king with no crown") she is not referring to Jesus. Yes before Jesus was crucified he was named king of the Jews and given the crown of thorns...but its still a crown nonetheless. A King with no crown is the Judas metaphor in her life she's stating that he rules over her and runs her life, but has no right to, hence a king with no crown.
The song is not about betraying Jesus or being in love with someone who brought down the center of religion. Actually quite the opposite it's about eternal and unconditional love she states she would do anything for Judas such as wash his feet with her hair amongst other things. But are you forgetting that Jesus would and did all these things for Judas knowing fully that he would betray him. Gaga isn't trying to say that she is greater than, equal to, or even close to Jesus, but that is why she's such a great artist because of the deep metaphors in her songs and that she's not afraid to say what she want's and not care what people would think of her, only people who are actually intelligent enough to look deep into the meaning of the song and not just take what she says literally because everything is not what it seems. To say that Gaga is a devil worshiper because of this song is to say that Jesus himself is corrupted, and anyone who actually thinks she would be so stupid as to contradict herself by releasing born this way, which is saying that God made us our own way for a reason and he makes no mistakes basically thanking him for putting her on the path that she's on, and then releasing Judas not much long after is very dense.
As i said before interpret it anyway u want to, but if your going to bash something you don't know anything about u should do ur homework first like i did and you would know that Gaga has nothing but respect for the catholic church. As much as she loves gays,bi's transgenders and so on, she never bashes straight people she believes as many do that gays should have the same rights as anyone else. Your sexual preference doesn't make up your personality and biological structure whether you like coke or pepsi doesn't change what kind of person you are. Everyone has a Judas in their life and i myself am in love with a Judas and would do anything for my worst enemy and that's what Jesus wants and that's what Jesus did. -
I think people are being too literal of Lady Gaga's lyrics in the fact that they're either pro or anti christianity.
I have been to Gaga's concerts before and she has NEVER once spoke about bringing down religion of any sort. She speaks of love and respect for all religions. That is something I believe she shows, and has shown throughout her music thus far and with all her messages (if you don't believe me that she defends God, go to one of her concerts or watch her gagavision on youtube).
With that said, I believe that this song has to do with the fact that she strays from the normal views of Christianity. Judas was, or is said to be by many scholars, Jesus' half brother (Symbolizing half of perfection) And yes, Judas did betray Jesus.
I think her message is not the fact that she wants to bring down Jesus, but the idea of legalism that is set forth by churches who claim the name of Jesus. These glorified images of what one has to be like to be a "christian" and be in a relationship with Jesus. Rather, she focuses on Judas, a man who was a blatant sinner and human being in its rarest form. She's focusing on (by saying she's in love) with those who sin and are able to admit they sin, rather than those who judge and point fingers and act holier than thou. She'd rather be in love with someone who is going to realize their flaws and know they are not perfect, rather than the opposite.
If anything, it doesn't even have to do with religion if you want to get really general with it. It can be her admitting she struggles with sin and is not perfect.
I cannot accept the idea that this song is overtly bashing Christianity. Gaga's songs always have crazy deep meanings even when they seem not to. I don't think she means for us to interpret this song at face value, like the others. It would contradict with her peaceful messages otherwise.
