Skillet: The Last Night Meaning
Song Released: 2007
The Last Night Lyrics
You tell me this will be the last night feeling like this
I just came to say goodbye
I didn't want you to see me cry, I'm fine
But I know it's a lie.
[Chorus:]
This is the last night you'll spend...

I agree with everyone else in saying that this is a conversation between someone who is suicidal and the narrator. The role of the narrator is up for debate, religious people say it is god, but for people such as I who do not believe in that, the narrator would be an every day friend. I have been that everyday friend a couple times in my life, even though I'm only 17. This kind of stuff does happen frequently in real life unfortunately so I don't think the narrator has to necessarily be god regardless of one's religious beliefs as this relates to real life a lot.

The song really is among the most beautiful ones of the earth. Dear espee never think that u r alone, God is always there for you, cares for you and loves u. This song really mean a lot for me because of you. I will always be there for you H.bee:)

I went to a skillet concert a couple days ago, and John (the lead singer) explained that this song is about a friend of his who came to him and told him she was going to end her life, this is him telling her how much he cares about her, and doesn't want her to die. its touching.
-
I think the song is really about god coming into someones life such as a friend of the girls. I think the friend is saying he will help her and that everything will be ok
-
This song reminds me so much of myself. Sometimes when I feel like the people I thought would stand with me are walking away, I listen to this song and remember someone is out there.
in my opinion, this is a conversation between God and someone struggling with issues to big for him/her to handle alone. So the lead singer (as God) is guiding her/him through and is holding her/his hand through the dark times.
amazing song. love it. -
Ok the actual truth is that John Cooper wrote this song for Korey, because that was actually her, her parents raised her telling her everything was her fault, putting her down and saying she'd never amount to anything, she actually did cut herself and was going to commit suicide but he was the one there for her, its actually true.

I saw one interpretation up there that involved the girl that was suicidal that was close to one of the band members. I believe that one is true because of the fact that I have been told that after one of the concerts a girl came up to the lead singer and told him about her suicidal thoughts, and so he made that song for her. But I fully believe that one comment by an anonymous user up there^

I am a huge skillet fan, and I could definitely see God singing to us about being our deliverer and Lover of our Souls, but I have a hard time believing that God would make such a rebellious statement against her parents. Not that Parents aren't ever wrong, but He commands us over and over again in His word to HONOR your Mother and Father. Saying, that he is "sick" of her parents lying about her,and they don't know her like he knows her. That is truth, but the way it is sung, feels like he is against her parents, when He is a God of Reconcilliation and compassion.

well i really like this song and what i reflect from that in that the narrator is god who is trying to help the girl that is hurting herself... everytime she tells god that it would be the last time that she do that and that she also dont want him to see her cry and feel bad...

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

What I get from it- a friend comes to him after cutting herself for a long time. She's doing it cause her parents are/have blamed her for everything wrong in the world. And she's had enough and wants to comment suicide. But he won't let her , he wants to save her. He'll never let her be alone again ,now that she's with him she fine.
What Skillet said about it- basically that it was about a girl who comes to him after a secret life of cutting. She's coming to say goodbye but she finds God through it all and she'll never be alone again. -
The way I see it just listening to the song. You have two people who are close and the lead singer is telling the female singer- who is suicidal- not to go through with it. Then he says I won't let you do it and ill be your reason why you don't.
-
My interpretation of this song is that the narrator is God, and He's saying that he will help. That it's the last night the sufferer will spend alone. God is telling him/her (referring to the singing, a her) that she doesn't have to take her own life away, He'll guide her through her troubles. He's telling her that He understands, and there's a reason for what she's going through. But most of all, He's telling her that she doesn't have to be alone, she can have faith through Him.
