Well... As I see it the pov hasn't nessecarily known the bad guy (or whoever) for long. Think about it, it could just be she was a hitch hiker who trusted some guy and then he raped her or something and she went to the police.

This song is pretty simple if you think about it. Think of the average Nirvana fan singing along thinking he's all cool...but he dosnt understand the words, he doesn't know what it means to feel them like the writer. He likes to shoot his guns- but he's just doing it because he thinks its cool and makes him look good. He doesn't understand himself really. Its all about image.
