Billie Eilish: I Didn't Change My Number Meaning
Song Released: 2021
I Didn't Change My Number Lyrics
Mm-mm, I
I didn't change my number
I only changed who I reply to
Laura said I should be nicer
But not to you
I love a "You mad at me?" text
Should've guessed
That you would think I was upset
You're obsessed
Don't take it out on...
-
This song is about Billie being initially under the charms of a guy and when these charms wore off she started to see this guy for who he really is, therefore she had enough and probably ghosted him(?). "I love a 'are you mad at me?' text, should have guessed that you think that I was upset" In this line Billie explains that the guy she was talking to, maybe they were in a talking stage/flirting, guessed that she was mad at something since her texts are not as nice as they used to be. She is tired of his games and he isn't as charming as he used to be in her eyes. "I'm out of sympathy for you" just confirms that she is not under his charms anymore. "I didn't change my number, I only changed who I reply to" The guy she was talking to might think that she has changed her number because she doesn't reply to him anymore, but in reality she just stopped replying to him since she isn't into him anymore.
